The stock OEM crank pulley is a considerable mass that requires power form the engine in order to rotate is. Fitting a much lighter weight crank pulley therefore allows less power from the engine to rotate and results in greater BHP that can be sent to the wheels.
In Theory every 0.45kg of weight removed form the stock crank pulley is equal to 2.7 BHP. The more weight that can be removed the less power is speed from the engine trying to drive the alternator and super charger.
IS A CRANK PULLEY SAFE?
The Stock OEM crank is constructed using a rubber center which acts as an elastometer similar to a harmonic damper but not the same thing.
An elastometor helps to reduce drive train noise suppressing vibrations and noises.
A harmonic damper is used to reduce torsional stress applied to the crank shaft
The mini does not need the rubber center to protect the engine due to the construction of the engine and the materials used within its design.
